Kent have named a thirteen man squad for the visit of Yorkshire to Canterbury in the County Championship this week.

Along with the eleven that drew with Gloucestershire last week, in come batsmen Sam Northeast and Daniel Bell-Drummond with the pair both in fine form of late.

Northeast joins the squad on the back of a good run with the second eleven, whilst Bell-Drummond has been scoring well for the England Under 19 side over in Australia.

Both are expected to miss out on selection however with Kent expected to keep faith with the same side for the third game in a row.

The only doubt surrounds all-rounder Darren Stevens who has been struggling with a back problem and should he miss out, Ben Harmison will be called upon to bowl his first overs of the season.

Jimmy Adams commented ahead of the match; “We’ve met all the challenges well as a unit. From what I’ve seen, I think we have the ability and more importantly, we have the right attitude.”

“That will help us go a long way as there will be things we haven’t catered for coming up and that character plugs gaps better than whether you have ability or not. The early signs are good and I’m backing the players to continue in the same vein, stay positive and at the same time stay focused.”

Skipper Rob Key meanwhile is expecting a competitive game, telling KSN:

“They will be strengthened by the addition of a few new faces, but we showed at Headingley that we can be more than a match for them and if we play to our potential, we can beat anyone on our day.”

“We’ve had a decent start to the season and going three games unbeaten means we go into the Yorkshire game full of confidence.”

The full squad to face Yorkshire at the St Lawrence Ground will be: Rob Key (c), Scott Newman, Ben Harmison, Brendan Nash, Mike Powell, Darren Stevens, Geraint Jones, Matt Coles, Mark Davies, Charlie Shreck, James Tredwell, Sam Northeast, Daniel Bell-Drummond.

Meanwhile, Yorkshire should have at two new faces in their side after the two teams played out a draw in the opening fixture of the season.

In will come England all-rounder Tim Bresnan for his first game for the Tykes this season, whilst Australian Phil Jacques joins up with the squad having recently got married.

He will replace former Yorkshire Anthony McGrath in the side, whilst England bowlers Adil Rashid and Ajmal Shahzad will line up alongside former England bowler Ryan Sidebottom.

Yorkshire’s 12 man squad to face Kent: Joe Root, Joe Sayers, Phil Jaques, Andrew Gale (c), Johnny Bairstow, Gary Ballance, Tim Bresnan, Adil Rashid, Ajmal Shahzad, Ryan Sidebottom, Steve Patterson, Iain Wardlaw.

With the weather forecast looking less than pleasant for the week ahead, Kent will be keen to get as much play in as possible at Canterbury in the coming days.
